1st & 10th Hole
The first hole is a difficult par three of 210 yards with a drop of 40 feet between tee and green.. Out of bounds await on the right and with two bunkers to the left a straight drive is paramount. Depending on the wind this can vary from a driver to a short iron. Second time - do it again but this time knowing what to expect.
2nd & 11th Fairway
Hole 2 is classic links. 400 yards from the white tee, drive straight between two bunkers to an undulating fairway. The second is blind over mounds to a green that slopes right to left. Beware the large bunker to the right. Too far left and it's a lost ball for sure. Second time round the tee is further right requiring either a long carry over rough and the right hand bunker, or for the faint-hearted, go further left but be left with a longer second.
3rd & 12th Hole
The third is the signature hole. Drive up to the raised fairway and then turn right to the green. A true 'risk and reward' hole. Take on the dog-leg and be left with a short iron to the undulating green. Take the safe route and what remains is a medium to long iron at best or a fairway wood if the wind is against. Second time round even more as the drive to the fairway is an extra 100 yards.
3rd & 12th Hole
2nd shot - Fairway to hole
4th & 13th Hole
The fourth hole is relatively easy - so long as you don't go right. Aim down the left hand side of the fairway (taking care to avoid the strategically placed pot bunker) to open up the well bunkered green. A short iron in and a birdie is a real possibility. Second time round just the same but 50 yards longer.
5th & 14th Hole
The only par 5 requires a drive over the Killie Gorge towards the caravans in the distance. Depending on the tee used the drive can be straight or require a carry over the rough to the right. Don't be too greedy as the land falls away steeply towards the sea. Reach the road and you have a long iron in to set up a possible birdie.
6th & 15th Hole
The Club's road hole. The 6th is the shortest hole on the course at 170 yards. However, second time round it becomes the longest par 3 in Northumberland at 245 yards. The green, guarded by bunkers right and left, lies about 35 yards beyond the road. A genuine birdie chance - from the front tee!!
7th & 16th Hole
The 7th takes you back over the KIllie Gorge. The photo shows the view from the 7th yellow tee. Plenty of room on the left but take care to avoid the gorse plantation. The 16th yellow and the whites are much different requiring a good drive with a carry of approaching 175 yards over bracken and gorse. A second to a green that slopes slightly left to right with pot bunkers guarding both sides.
8th & 17th Hole
Aim left off the 8th tee box or risk going OoB in the field. Many will take an iron or utility club to take out of play the three bunkers, two left and one right, that sit on a driving length. Then a short iron to a large green taking care to avoid the two deep bunkers that guard the left side. Played second time round the tee is adjacent to the left side of the 7th green the hole is about 30 yards longer - but the field is less of a threat.
9th & 18th Hole
Looking back from the green there are two very different holes. The 9th plays from a tee on the right over rough and the corner of the practice ground. The longer hitter will aim for the marker post but for the rest a more conservative line is towards the telegraph pole. Then an iron to the large sloping green. The 18th plays from the left - shorter with the fairway bunkers more in play. Many will opt for a medium iron followed by a 9 iron or wedge to the green. In both cases don't go too long or you will be OoB in the car-park!
